The Answer Studio is animating the adaptation of the first three novels from the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The staff for the anime includes:
- Director: Hiroshi Kawamata
- Character Designs: Ken'ichi Tsuchiya
- Art Director: Tadashi Kudo
- Animation Director: Naoko Saito and Yuji Watanabe
- Music: Michiru Oshima
Honoka Inoue is voicing the titular Anne Shirley. The cast also features Yume Miyamoto as Diana Berry, Naoya Miyase as Gilbert Blythe, Aya Nakamura as Marilla Cuthbert, and Yasunori Matsumoto as Matthew Cuthbert.
This is not the first adaptation of the novel series: the first one was Akage no Anne, which premiered in 1979. Over the years, Anne of Green Gables took life in multiple anime formats, with the latest being the Anne of Green Gables: The Road to Green Gables movie version of the 1979 TV anime.
The first book in the series, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908. The Anne Shirley anime will adapt the following two books: Anne of Avonlea, published in 1909, and Anne of the Island, published in 1915.
The URL for the official website (ann-e) for Anne Shirley anime is a play on the famous "Anne with an E" quote that Anne keeps repeating throughout the series.
