Crunchyroll Adds Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom Movie to Its Catalog

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom movie is coming to Crunchyroll later today (April 24, 2025, at 5 pm PST). The movie was originally released in Japan last year and it had a North American screening run in November. Total runtime of the movie is 132 minutes.

The third non-recap movie in the Overlord franchise adapted Volumes 12-13 of the light novel, which cover "The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom" arc. The arc was not included in the fourth season of the TV anime, but events from it should have taken place around the 8th episode. Crunchyroll is also streaming the TV anime.

The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after the construction of an enormous wall, but one day that comes to an end. The Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans, forcing the Slane Theocracy to beg their enemies in the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Helmed by the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, the undead army joins the fight to defeat Jaldabaoth once and for all.

The Overlord anime series is based on light novels written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The first season of the anime adaptation by studio MADHOUSE aired in 2015. The second and third seasons both aired in 2018. Two recap movies, also by the studio MADHOUSE, were released before the fourth season, which finished airing in 2022.
