Author Koushi Tachibana commented on the announcement:
It's been 12 years since the first anime season and 14 years since the original series began. It's become quite long-running for a light novel. Thank you so much for accompanying me for so long. Thanks to you, it looks like we'll be able to see something new again. I hope you'll continue to follow the story of Shido, Tohka and the others for a little longer.
The Date A Live anime premiered in in the spring of 2013. Over the years it got four sequels in the form of a TV anime, a movie titled Mayuri Judgement, and several OVAs. AIC PLUS+ started the franchise with the first season but it was later moved to Production IMS (founded by AIC Spirits producers) for Season 2 and the movie. J.C.Staff animated the third season while Geek Toys did the fourth and fifth season.
The anime is adapting the light novel written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, serialized from 2011 to 2020 under Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.
