Digimon Announces Beatbreak Anime for 25th Anniversary

Digimon franchise announced a new TV anime project at today's 25th anniversary event. Digimon Beatbreak is coming in October 2025 with Toei Animation as the studio.

In addition to Digimon Beatbreak anime, the franchise also revealed the 25th anniversary video for Digimon Adventure: Beyond featuring Tai and Matt:

Digimon started as a series of digital pet toys in 1997 and expanded to video games, manga, and anime, becoming a huge Japanese franchise covering many mediums. The franchise has been owned by Bandai since its conception.

It's often considered that Akiyoshi Hongo, a pseudonym for Aki Maita, Hiroshi Izawa, and Takeichi Hongo, contributed the most to the popularity of the franchise.

There are nine Digimon anime series and 20 movies. This years marks the 25th anniversary celebrates since the release of the 1999 theatrical version of Digimon Adventure. The anniversary event has sparked pop-up cafés and shops all over Japan.

The original Digimon movie, Digimon Adventure, was directed by the famous Mamoru Hosoda (Wolf Children, Summer Wars) and written by Reiko Yoshida (The Cat Returns, K-On!).

Digimon follows a group of kids as they team up with their Digimon partners to stop a strange virus that threatens both the digital world and the real world.

Koji Wada sang theme songs for several Digimon anime until his tragic death in 2016 due to cancer. The most famous Digimon opening is his "Butter-fly," which has been rerealsed in compilation albums even since his death.
