Dr. Ashura Manga Announces TV Drama Adaptation
Fuji TV has announced that Ryou Koshino's manga series Dr. Ashura is being adapted into a TV drama that will begin airing in April. The adaptation will star Wakana Matsumoto (My Precious, Saionji-san wa Kaji wo Shinai) as protagonist Anno Shura, who works as a doctor in the emergency department.
Shura is not a genius nor is she interested in fame and fortune, she simply wishes to save lives. Due to her obsessive nature when it comes to her patients and her strong desire to prevent anyone dying at all costs, she has is given the nickname 'Ashura', the Archangel of healing.

The script for the drama will be handled by award-winning Shito Sayaka (Cinderellas of Midsummer), and in the director role is Hiroaki Matsuyama (Hyouka, Don't Call It Mystery). The team are working closely with original creator Ryou Koshino to expand upon the story as the manga is unfinished.
Dr. Ashura's manga ran in Manga Goraku between 2015-2016 and has been compiled into three volumes. Koshino comments on the drama's Fuji TV page that although there had long been talk of turning the series into a live-action, these always fell through. Koshino also felt that the unfinished nature of the manga meant it would be difficult to adapt, but he's delighted to be working with Matsumoto and the team. Koshino also confirms he has been involved with plot and scenario meetings, to help craft the extra content needed.
