Nintendo Switch 2 Technical Specs
From a technical perspective, the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a noticeably larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen that supports up to 120 FPS. The new magnetically-attachable Joy-Con 2 controllers feature a 'C' button and can also be used in a mouse-like mode. When docked, the Switch 2 has the capacity to run games at up to 4K resolution, with a built-in fan in the dock to cool the console.
The 'C' button allows players to access the new GameChat feature, which can isolate the player's voice even from a distance, and communicate with other online players, either handheld or docked. The GameChat feature also allows for screen sharing with friends, similar to multi-user screen-sharing in apps like Discord. The Nintendo Switch 2-compatible camera will connect via the additional USB-C port on the top of the console.
Nintendo announced that compatible titles can be shared wirelessly with local Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 units, via 'GameShare,' similarly to Download Play from the Nintendo DS.
More Nintendo Switch 2 Games
The new Nintendo Switch 2 has been confirmed to be backwards compatible with "almost all" original Switch titles, meaning you can simply put your cartridges in the Switch 2 (or download them from your eShop account), and play old titles on your new console. There will also be "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games, which are compatible titles that will take advantage of improved graphics and resolution on the new console.
