As part of today's Pokémon Presents fans were updated on a variety of news related to the Pokémon franchise, which is celebrating 29 years since the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan in February 1996. The Pokémon Company revealed more information on the latest entry in the series, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, including the release window.

Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile

The game takes place in Lumiose City, the largest city in the Kalos region which fans will be familiar with from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which were released for the Nintendo 3DS in October 2013. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Lumiose City is going under a new redevelopment plan to become a city that belongs to humans and Pokémon alike. Players will be able to choose between familiar faces Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile as their starter Pokémon before heading into the city to explore the sights!

The trailer for the game showcases several of the new characters you'll meet as well as the new action-based gameplay, which reinventes the battle system as we know it. Now players must take into consideration the reach of their Pokémon's moves, as well as taking care to dodge oncoming attacks. The video also confirms the return of Mega Evolution, a gimmick introduced in X & Y that allows certain Pokémon to temporarily evolve into a more powerful 'Mega' form.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to be released for the Nintendo Switch in "late 2025" or "Fall 2025" as the Japanese version of the Presents listed, which could imply the usual November release window that Pokémon games are generally released in. We'll have to wait and see!
