Sakamoto Days Anime Streaming Situation Explained

Sakamoto Days anime premiere is just around the corner but fans are faced with a somewhat peculiar situation ahead of the January 11. The first two episodes of the anime will debut on Netflix in Japan on January 11, but only one will be broadcast on TV and streamed overseas (also on Netflix).

This means that Netflix Japan will always be one week ahead when it comes to Sakamoto Days: the streaming platform will get the third episode on January 18, when the rest of the world will get the second. This is not a new situation, as Blue Box anime, which premiered in the Fall 2024 anime season, streamed in the same manner. Blue Box is continuing this season, once again with Netflix Japan having an advantage.

While this situation is better than the infamous "Netflix jail" it is still far from ideal for overseas anime fans. Patience may be a virtue, but it's not uncommon to see viewers resorting to piracy to get the latest episode without having to wait, as evident by social media posts.

Sakamoto Days anime by TMS Entertainment will be broadcast in two cours: one that begins on January 11 and one that is slated to premiere in July. Masaki Watanabe is directing the adaptation with Taku Kishimoto on series composition and Yo Moriyama on character designs.

The main cast includes Tomokazu Sugita as the titular Sakamoto, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shin Asakura, and Ayane Sakura as Lu Xiaotang. Earlier today, the anime revealed its opening featuring "Hashire Sakamoto by Vaundy.

The anime adapts Sakamoto Days manga by Yuto Suzuki, currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
