Last week, the anime unveiled a trailer featuring the opening theme song "Continue" by NEE:

Yokohama Animation Lab is animating the adaptation, previously scheduled for 2024 release date but delayed due to production issues. The first episode will also be an hour-long special. Kazuya Aiura is directing along with series composition by Deko Akao and character designs by Taro Ikegami. Music will be composed by MONACA's Ryuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi (MONACA). The cast includes:

  • Taku Yashiro as Jinta
  • Saori Hayami as Shirayuki
  • Reina Ueda as Suzune
  • Hiroshi Shirokuma as Doka no Oni
  • Yui Kondo as Tomi no Kijo

The anime will adapt the light novel written by Motoo Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki. The novel was originally published on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website between December 2015 and October 2016. Futabasha acquired the title and serialized it from June 2019 to November 2023. The same publisher is also serializing a manga adaptation with art by Yu Satomi. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the novels in English.

HIDIVE is streaming the anime and describes the plot of Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho as:
In the Edo period, there was a shrine maiden called "Itskihime" in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a wandering orphan who, along with his younger sister Suzune, drifted into the village and grew up to become the shrine maiden's guardian, ventures into the forest to defeat a mysterious demon who speaks to him of the far future and the threat of a Demon God. So begins this epic supernatural historical fantasy series that follows a demon hunter through his century-spanning journey from the Edo to Heisei periods—all-the-while questioning his wielding of a sword.
