VTuber Gawr Gura Announces Graduation
Popular VTuber Gawr Gura will graduate and cease activities with Hololive on May 1st, four-and-a-half years after her introduction to Hololive English in September 2020.
The announcement was made during a livestream on Gura's channel, where an obviously Gura cited disagreement with management and company direction.
Gawr Gura debuted with the Hololive English - Myth (HoloMyth) group alongside Takanashi Kiara, Mori Calliope, Ninomae Ina'nis, and Watson Amelia; together they formed the "First Generation" for Hololive English.
Shortly before Gura's stream, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Gura had been removed from the Tokyo Tourism website, where she had formerly been appointed as an ambassador alongside Sakura Miko and Mori Calliope.
In the past year, Hololive English has been rocked with numerous departures and upheavals. Nanashi Mumei announced her upcoming graduation for April 2025, with Cover Corp. citing her chronic health issues and misalignment with the agency. Ceres Fauna graduated in January 2025, and Amelia Watson halted streaming activities back in September 2024, choosing to become an affiliate instead.
Hololive made the following statement:
We regret to announce that Gawr Gura of hololive English will be graduating on May 1st, 2025 (JST).
Since her debut as a member of hololive English -Myth- five years ago, Gura has touched the hearts of fans around the world, become a beloved face for VTubing in its early stages, and played
an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production. To all the fans who have shown their unwavering love and support, we sincerely thank you. While we understand that this news may be difficult for many, we deeply respect and support Gura's decision as she begins her next chapter.
We are endlessly grateful for Gura's remarkable contributions and wish her nothing but success and happiness on her journey forward.
At the time of writing, Gura's YouTube channel has 4.55 million subscribers, making her the single largest VTuber under Hololive's management, ahead of Houshou Marine's 3.9 million subscribers, and Hoshimachi Suisei's 2.7 million.
